Operation Timeline

We get it. It's been tough keeping up. That's why we're compiling a chronological exploration of the Trump administration's actions focusing on the military and veterans. We are tracking the developments day by day, so you don't have to. From the flurry of executive orders on Inauguration Day to the ongoing cultural and operational overhaul of the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. It's all here—and will be whenever you are ready to dive in.

The timeline features links to executive orders, directives and other official actions plus news articles and social media posts highlighting the impact of the administration's first months in office. You can filter by issue or military branch. Scroll through each item or skip to a particular date on the calendar.

Our Methodology

Why we're doing this: Operation Timeline documents the human impact of federal policy changes on veterans and the military. Our goal is to compile a public resource for academics, journalists, and citizens alike, with links to government documents, executive orders, and other policy directives that are driving decisions throughout the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The filtering options allow readers to track how an issue evolved over time.

How we are choosing our news sources: We're including news stories that provide additional context to ongoing developments. To increase accessibility, we focused on news sources that do not have a paywall and specialize in covering the military. As this project continues, we will include reports from other sources when the information is original reporting or not available elsewhere.

Why we are including social media posts: We're including select posts to highlight how the commander in chief, elected officials, DOD and VA are using social media to portray their decisions and policy changes.
