I always took crap for wearing a KA-BAR knife on the left front strap of my battle harness. I think most guys were jealous they hadn’t done it first.

Andrew Hesterman enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1987. His 25-year military career spanned five presidents and four conflicts before he retired from the Marines in 2013. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals, as well as the Combat Action Ribbon. Andy lives in Florida, where he runs Hestermann Motorwerks, building custom cars.
