DonateRuthy Muñoz is a freelance journalist, multilingual linguist, and upcoming author. Her work can be found at Reuters, Yahoo News, Houston Public Media, and The Venture Online, among others. She has been named a Chips Quinn Scholar, as well as a Reuters/National Association of Black Journalists Fellow, and she won the 2018 Edgar A. Poe Memorial Award, presented by the White House Correspondents’ Association, as part of the Reuters investigative team for the “Shock Tactics” series. Muñoz chairs the communications and membership committees for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists—Houston Chapter. She was born and raised in the Bronx to Dominican parents, and her hobbies include traveling, baseball, culture, singing, reading, and watching Chinese dramas. Muñoz has lived in France, Spain, Italy, and China and speaks each of those languages. She enjoys substitute teaching, working with troubled youth, and teaching English as a second language to professional athletes in her spare time. She was a French interpreter for the U.S. Soccer/Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament and served in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of specialist. Muñoz lives in Houston.
