Shayla Sullivan served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the 1990s, facing love and loss in Okinawa, Japan. A UCLA Extension graduate, her sci-fi and fiction won nominations at the Allegra Johnson Award and first place in the University of Memphis’ Giem and Collins contest. She has a master’s degree in political science and bachelor’s degree in English. Her military memoir and fiction explore identity, courage, and human connection. Now in Kansas, she writes stories blending mind and heart.
